About

Mission and Objectives

Forum Dança is a non-profit cultural association created in 1990, with the mission of promoting contemporary dance through professional and artistic training and research, publishing, and documentation.

Forum is a meeting platform for professionals and the public. It develops pedagogical projects, seminars, artistic residencies, informal presentations, workshops, and regular classes directed to professional and amateur audiences, adults, and youth.

Presentation

During its first decade, Forum Dança contributed greatly to the development, international recognition, and consolidation of the New Portuguese Dance, through the production and international dissemination of performances, professional and artistic training, and research, and by publishing and documentation initiatives.

Since then, Forum has been continuously active within the professional community, supporting the emergence of new creators and facilitating their inclusion in international networks. It has also promoted dissemination and training activities with the amateur public (adults and young), especially in seminars, workshops, and regular classes.

As part of its dissemination and training work, Forum Dança has designed and held, since 1991, more than 50 Professional Training and Recycling Courses in Lisbon, Porto, Faro, Torres Vedras, and Vila do Conde, namely:

    • Dance Instructor for the Community Course
    • Contemporary Dance Interpreters Course
    • Dance Management/Production Course
    • Performing Arts Management/Production Course

    • Choreographic Research and Creation Course
    • Dance Techniques for the Community
    • Dance in the Community Course
    • Program for Study, Research and Choreographic Creation
    • Advanced Creative Program in Performing Arts.

Forum Dança has also provided artistic and production support to choreographers and companies and has a documentation center specialized in dance, with around 1500 works from different artistic and technical areas, dance magazines and catalogs, as well as a media library.
